The Infidel

A very good comedy that also tackles religion and how alike some religions are.

Awake

This was a harrowing take on a real fear. What if you woke during major surgery but completely paralysed? Not only is he aware of his surroundings, his surgeon is attempting to kill him. It is a heart pounding thriller that shows the extent people will go to to save themselves and the ones they love.

9/10

Pandorum

This was a scary take on the old tale, the tale of why we should fear the dark. It shows a ship of 16,000 people. Humanity's last hope. It is destined for an earth-like world as earth is dying. Shortly after the ship is launched earth explodes. The ship is empty and no one left alive knows anything about it. It is a good film filled with suspense but ultimately like every Hollywood film. The main good guy survives.

The Taking of Pelham 123

I don't think I have ever seen an actor swear as much who appeared in a child musical film. John Travolta plays his character very well and looks as if he could be insane as well. Denzel Washington is calm and professional in his execution of his character. The film about a man who appears to be a lowly opportunist who wishes to make quick money but as the story unfolds we see there is more to this sinister man than meets the eye. A must-see if you like ether 'From Paris With Love' or 'Man on Fire'.

Something I noticed...

Recently quite a few films have been based on books and novels. Are the writers of Hollywood out of ideas? Must they now read a book, change basically nothing and get paid ridiculous amounts of money. That's unfair. Soon they will take to stealing children's school essays in an attempt to make money.

Youth in Revolt

A tragic tale about a misunderstood teen who falls in love with a girl. Over the past few years Hollywood has been turning these out a dime a dozen. Michael Cera plays a socially awkward teen, yet again and now appears to become a genre actor playing the awkward teen and it appears nothing will change. What will happen when this young actor gets older and stops looking 17? Only time can tell. A quirky teen love story about a boy who changes for a girl he loves.

Ninja Assassin

It was a modern take on the ninja genre of film. Set in America, a team of assassins set out to kill people etc etc. A nice love story hidden while there are some excellent displays of martial arts and weapon skills. Your classic film, good guy wins. Bad guys dies and no real main characters die apart from the evil one. The film builds up to a stand off between the good guy and the leader of the evil assassin ultimately ending with the good guy winning after a close fight.

The Terminal

Tom Hanks in yet another classic performance. From Forest Gump to Saving Private Ryan Hanks never fails to perform well and doesn't disappoint here. In this film he portrays a man without a country stuck in an airport terminal. Victor's country descends into civil war while he is on a flight to JFK. He is unable to return home, nor is he allowed to enter the USA. He must wait for peace to be declared or break out where he will become someone else's problem. This is a good story with some humour and very emotional scenes.

Sherlock Holmes

Although it took me three days to watch it, this adaptation of a timeless classic was very well executed. Robert Downey Jr makes a very good Holmes and Jude Law as Watson adds real depth to the film. Downey Jr has battled through some dark times in his past and appears to be over them now. This was a 5 star performance from Robert Downey Jr. Well left open as well with the possibilities of sequels very likely if the cast feel they want to pursue that route.

The Invention Of Lying

To me the pre lie filled world is perfect. Full of logic and clear and set out. After the lie becomes invented everything becomes complicated. With the truth, people are blunt but precise. No one attempts to spare feelings etc because they don't know how to. It was a good film with a well casted cast. The message that is clear throughout the film is that what ever you see on the outside, there is more to someone. That to truly judge someone we must look deeper. A lovely film which masquerades as a comedy but has a very strong romantic aspect in it among philosophical ideologies.

7 Pounds

It is one of the most tragic love stories I've ever seen, worthy of the Greeks. It is about a man who causes the death of his wife and 7 others. He then feels the need to make ammends by saving the life of others. He ends up committing suicide and donating his heart to the women he loves among other body parts including his eyes to a blind man who is so kind. It is the tragic story of how far someone would go to repent. It begs the question, what would you do to save the life of a stranger. He answered 'Give his life.'

Tenacious D in the Pick Of Destiny

This film was just as you expect. Filled with low budget effects but it works. You go into it expecting nothing and come away with a good story about friendship. It shows how several things can get in the way of a friendship. Ultimately friendship over comes the temptations to destroy Satan and win a competition. Predictable film, has some good bits but a bit lacking in the dialogue department.

Animals United

This was a clever film. They snuck in an important message to children while covering it up with cartoon animals. The Children will ultimately been the ones who have to deal with climate change so why not start them early. As for adults, the inclusion of certain celebrities was clear. Stephen Fry playing Socrates the Lion was an easy choice. Who else is so wise and philosophical? If people watch the hit BBC show Qi then you will understand what I mean. The end appeared to try to hard and ultimately let the film down. It is a shame when things like this happen but yet another film falls victim to the curse of the ending.
